What this is
Movie Night Picker helps a group land on a movie together. Everyone shares a sentence or two about what they're in the mood for, Claude turns that into structured preferences, and real movies from The Movie Database (TMDB) get matched, reranked, and nominated into a shared cart.
Where the data comes from
- Factual movie data - title, year, runtime, genres, cast, crew, certification, and streaming availability all come directly from TMDB. Every recommended movie resolves to a real TMDB ID - nothing is invented.
- TMDB community score is TMDB's own vote_average, labeled explicitly as such. It is never presented as an IMDb rating.
- Third-party ratings (IMDb score, Rotten Tomatoes) are shown only when a legitimate OMDb API key is configured, and only when OMDb actually returns a value. If no key is configured, those fields simply say "Not available" - they are never estimated or guessed.
- AI-inferred content - mood tags, spoiler-free summaries, and "why it fits the group" explanations - is generated by Claude, grounded only in the factual TMDB data above, and is labeled "AI-suggested" wherever it appears so it stays distinguishable from verified facts.
- Streaming availability data is provided by JustWatch via TMDB.
